The Diamond

by Jeanette Shackleton

A cold and dirty piece of rock
that lay upon the ground
mixed among many common stones,
one day a traveler found.

With care he took the stone and cleaned it,
cut it to perfection.
Its dazzling brilliance pierced the light
and glimmered his reflection!

Exquisite in its beauty,
a diamond he had found!
With utmost care and tenderness
he placed it in his crown.

In raiment white and glistening,
the Majesty on high
had come to earth that stone to find
the diamond that was I!
