A Weak Prayer to a Strong God

by Sharon Hinck

Lord—what can I give you?
I was weak before.
Now I’ve become frail.

I was empty.
Now I’m a pocket turned inside out.

I come to you without talent, ideas, energy, zest.

But I come.

And I thank you that
the more vast my emptiness,
the more abundant your grace is to fill it.

Show me what I can offer you.
Today.
This hour.

Sing a new song
Through the silences in my life.
Strengthen my hand
To give love to others.

But even when all I can do
Is touch your cloak and tremble,
As I’m bleeding with loneliness and loss,
Thank you for turning your gaze to me
And calling me daughter.
